Research on the Development of Biomass Heating Industry

Date:2018-12-26 09:12:13
In Deshengmen Lecture Hall, Hong Hao, Vice President of CFIC, made a speech about research on the development of biomass heating industry. He pointed out that to develop renewable energy, especially biomass energy, is a way to achieve green growth, and the development of biomass industry should lay stress on heating terminal market.

China's coal-based energy structure has resulted in higher carbon emissions and pollutant emissions. At present, China’s total carbon emissions are the sum of the United States, the EU and Japan. In other words, if China does not carry out emissions, the world will not be able to discharge emissions effectively. To this end, China makes a promise that the emission and fossil energy utilization will peak in 2030. What to replace coal is a matter of great concern. Meanwhile, biomass energy is received unprecedented attention as one of the solution.

In world’s primary energy structure, renewable energy accounts for 13.8%, biomass 10%. Besides, about 70% biomass in renewable energy are dominant. In the global energy terminal consumption structure, power generation accounts for 20%, liquid transportation fuel 30%, and heat supply 50%, of which biomass for heating amounts to 92%, that is to say, the development of biomass energy industry puts emphasis on the heating terminal market.

EU has put forward that by 2040, 100% of the heating and cooling market in Europe will be supplied by renewable energy. Additionally, Sweden has achieved green development through the speedy development of renewable energy, especially biomass energy. Denmark's biomass energy accounts for as much as 70%. Based on Sweden and Denmark, the development of renewable energy, especially biomass energy, is the way to achieve green growth.

In China, the annual energy resource for clean energy without solar energy is 2.15 billion tons of standard coal, of which biomass accounts for 54.5%. Biomass raw material resources are twice that of hydropower and 3.5 times that of wind power. At the same time, biomass resources are mainly distributed in the eastern region, which is matched with the energy demand market and has advantages in resource distribution.

China has about 527,000 coal-fired industrial boilers, and the annual coal consumption has reached 720 million tons. China's industrial boilers emit 1.601 million tons of soot, 7.185 million tons of sulfur dioxide, and 2.71 million tons of nitrogen oxides. According to the national policy, a total of 400,000 coal-fired boilers under 20 tons will be replaced, and the market space will reach hundreds of billions of yuan! Furthermore, biomass is the cheapest alternative to other traditional energy. What’s more, as long as the pollutants are equipped with professional biomass stoves, the same emission standards for natural gas can be achieved.

In recent years, national policies have been issued to support the development of biomass energy. At the end of 2017, the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration issued the "Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Development of Biomass Energy Heating" to promote industry development. The “Winter Cleaner Heating Plan for the Northern Region (2017-2020)” jointly issued by the 10 ministries and commissions has set a quantitative target that by 2021, coal to gas will reach 1.8 billion square meters, coal to electricity 1.5 billion square meters, and coal to biomass 2.1 billion square meters. Hence, biomass energy industry will face a enormous development opportunity.
